DEAD LETTER CIRCUS – new album, interview with Kim Benzie

Kim Benzie, singer for
Dead Letter Circus

Dead Letter Circus is a Brisbane based rock band who’ve built up a loyal following on the other side of the Tasman. This week lead singer Kim Benzie was in Auckland to promote their new – and fifth- album, cunningly called Dead Letter Circus. It’s released today, September 21.

Simon caught up Kim to chat about the album, the band, and Kim’s songwriting. He’s a deep thinker, with a sharp sense of humour and lots to say. A good thing in a writer! Among other topics, Simon discussed the band’s name (and snared a small scoop), and chatted about the stories behind the first two songs on the new album, The Armour You Own and The Real You.

And just when we thought the interview was over, stick around till the end for Kim’s truly dirty story about his encounter with Kiwi rockers Shihad, and their lead singer, Jon Toogood. Please note, the interview is frank and contains a liberal sprinkling of profanity.

And here are links to the first two songs from the new Dead Letter Circus album, The
Armour You Own, and The Real You.
