Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Release New Single ‘Mainland’ + Announce US/CAN/UK/EU Tour + Playing Laneway 2018 + ‘French Press’ 2017 Accolades

Ivy League Records is absolutely thrilled to reveal ‘Mainland’ – the first taste of new music from renowned Melbourne outfit Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. The track received its worldwide premiere overnight on triple j’s Good Nights, and was followed by a succession of first-plays across a number of territories including BBC 6 Music (UK) and bFM (NZ).

To coincide with the single release and add to their billings on recent festival announcements (Laneway Festival, Coachella, Shaky Knees) the band today also reveal a run of US, Canadian, UK and European tour dates, starting in the US in April before making their way through the UK and Europe throughout May and June.

Recorded in a secluded house in the Northern NSW wilderness, ‘Mainland’ marks the first taste of new music from the band since the release of their lauded 2017 EP The French Press. The EP landed on many ‘Best Of 2017’ lists, including The Guardian/The Observer ‘Hidden Gems’. Meanwhile, lead single ‘French Press’ was the sixth most played song on triple j in 2017, and made countless end-of-year lists including coming in at #10 on Rolling Stone’s Best Songs of 2017, while the band came in at #13 in Paste Magazine’s Best New Artists.

‘Mainland’ boasts the same urgency as tracks like ‘Clean Slate’ and ‘Sick Bug’ that helped bring the band to the attention of punters and won them critical acclaim. Inspired by a 2017 trip to his grandparent’s birthplace of the Aeolian Islands off Sicily, singer/songwriter/guitarist Tom Russo describes how the track came together.

“I was reading about a refugee crisis unfolding not far away in the Mediterranean Sea. The song is about longing, disillusionment, privilege and holding on to love as a kind of shield.”
With their penchant for hooky guitars and undeniable melodies, married with lyrics that are intelligent and wide-eyed with an unmistakably Australian dry wit, Rolling Blackouts C.F. have undeniably carved out a unique place in the musical landscape both locally and further afield.

Making waves internationally – they have inked a deal with iconic US label Sub Pop at the start of last year and received high-rotation airplay on UK tastemaker BBC6 – the band spent much of 2017 on the road, including multiple sold out shows on their first ever European tour.

The band will kick off 2018 in much the same way, heading out as part of the massive Laneway Festival this February. With a huge run of shows and more new music on the horizon, Rolling Blackouts C.F. show no signs of slowing down in 2018.
