Drunken Piano, 95bFM and Noisey present Father John Misty with support by SJD

FRIDAY 13 NOVEMBER, 2015 – It’s only a matter of weeks until brilliant American singer-songwriter Josh Tillman aka Father John Misty takes the stage at Auckland’s St James Theatre in his first New Zealand show as a solo artist. Today, Tillman announces that he will be joined by Auckland’s own SJD as support act.

SJD (Sean James Donnelly) is one of Auckland’s most accomplished singer-songwriters and producers, with a raft of rave reviews for his live shows and most recent album Saint John Divine. Last month, Donnelly was recognised as Best Producer in the VNZMA Technical Awards for his work on the album.

“Lush, soulful, and gentle.” – Graham Reid, Elsewhere

“Saint John Divine …is blessed with warmth, indelible melodies, and stories to tell from SJD’s askew, dryly witty point of view.” – Russell Baillie, NZ Herald

“We’re all really looking forward to seeing and supporting Father John Misty in Auckland. We’re all big fans of the Honeybear album – it’s wistful yet cynical take on Americana strangely suited a late afternoon drive along the Desert Road en route to Rotorua…” Donnelly says.

Father John Misty comes to Auckland on the back of a sold-out UK tour, followed by European dates. Just weeks ago, The Guardian said “Josh Tillman’s miraculous transformation from maudlin balladeer to country-soul showman Father John Misty is a joy to behold”.

It’s certainly a change of pace from Tillman’s last trip to New Zealand, behind the drums for Fleet Foxes. This trip he brings music from two critically acclaimed albums Fear Funand I Love You, Honeybear, fronting his own band and delivering a show that has been winning over audiences and reviewers alike.

Don’t miss these two superb musicians and songwriters with their full bands, live on stage at the St James on Thursday 3 December.
